Beeswax Use - Ski & SnowboardWax

Read Now

Back before petroleum based waxes were available skiers utilized natural ingredients to wax the bottom of their skis.  We will not go into the specifics of glide and grip but we will let you know that we have been experimenting with our friends at Pioneers Board Shop in North Hampton on a beeswax based snowboard/ski wax that is effective and 100% natural and biodegradable.  Our 5th formula seems to have made a big improvement on glide and I tested it in some perfect conditions at Sunday River at the end of February.  Snow conditions and weather play a big role in the type of wax one can use but so far our test batches have performed well over the synthetic waxes that are found on the market.  Contact us at [email protected] if you are interested in testing our formula.

Hi Odde, We are working on a general formula and may open source it soon. At this point we are down to 3 types of wax and will hopefully have them ready to test in the Fall of 2020. Stay safe!

Hi guys this is Fran from Chile. Snowboarder and beekeeper!
In order to become more natural during this days would be great if you can share your knowledge with the Andes Mountains

Hi Fran,

We have you on the list and look forward to sharing our formula. We don't have the great powder conditions you have in the Andes though. The current formula does great in those conditions.

Best,

Joe

Ive also been searching for a non fluorocarbon wax. Beeswax seems like a good choice. A little expensive but with the right ingredients, would definitely work. I would like if you emailed me. Thanks.

Hi Nate,

It is a bit more expensive but much better for the environment than soy or petroleum based waxes. We will email once we get the formula right.

Joe

Hi Josh,

We are still working on the formulas but would love to talk about some approaches we are taking. We are using all natural components with Beeswax being a big part of the formula.

Hi there,
I've just done a quick search for people using beeswax for snowboards and found yourselves.

Myself and my wife are avid snowboarders and i also collect old snowboards.

So with my 4 beehives I thought I would see if I could use the wax for snowboards.

When and if you decide to release your recipe for general use I would like get a copy thanks.

In New Zealand we don't get a lot of powder having the ocean so close to our mountains it is usually wet heavy snow. Not sure if your formula or formulas cover this but it would be good to give it a go.

Cheers rob

Starting back in 2019 I started making my own all natural surfwax and one of my main ingredients is beeswax. Although it’s only April I was thinking about trying to make ski wax this year so while doing research I came upon this article. At the risk of being to forward any chance at seeing your recipe? I completely understand if you don’t, just figured I’d give it a shot. Have a great day thanks

Hi there.

Just reading through all the comments and wondering the same thing. Is there a hood open source formula you have developed with bees wax?

Have you ever tried waxing skis with straight beeswax? Really curious about this topic. Anything informative about beeswax and skis would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

just as the last message from Travis in this post.

We have bees and wax, love to ski and we're keen to learn from your recipe. As well we'd like to know if 100% beeswax will also do a good job.

kind regards from Belgium
